oh ireland, you really are a magical place. on my second trip to the emerald island I was no less smitten. i accompanied my mum-in-law, as i did last year, for her annual pilgrimage to attend dog shows. the trip is not for the faint of heart, as it involves a 6 hour car ride to catch the ferry in wales, a three and a half hour ferry trip and then another 2 hour car drive from the docking point to dungarvan, in the southeast of ireland. we stayed with family in the quaint coastal town located in county waterford.
during our trip we visited corb, formerly queenstown, known as the last port before the titanic set sea for america. the popular seaport town remains much the same as it did back then. from corb we headed to blarney castle, located near cork. in typical irish fashion, it was cold and rainy, but i managed to kiss the blarney stone, which according to legend endows the kisser with the gift of gab. i have to confess, if i had known this last bit, i might have passed, given i already talk too much as it is!
ireland is one of those places i will always return to, it is a part of me. until next time!
(my apologies for the iPhone quality photographs - 40 mins into our trip i realized to my horror i had forgotten my camera - gah!)

blarney castle

nope, that's not barry, but an overly eager staff member whose job it is to 'hold' people while they kiss the stone. afterwards he told his co-worker - "now that's a pretty lady" and directed him to take my picture. pretty much made this old married lady's day.

dungarvan harbour

during our visit there was a maritime festival, including this traditional irish band.i really enjoyed watching the children dance to the music.
