as an expat living abroad, having visitors helps stave off homesickness. this past spring we were fortunate to have two visitors, including my dearest cousin, who i grew up with, sam. sadly (maybe not from your perspective!) there are not the usual plethora of pictures as my cousin, the avid world traveler that he is, requested not to be photographed. although his visit was brief i managed to sneak in a few.
no visit would be complete without enjoying a curry (the national dish of england!) at our favorite local indian restaurant, masala. this photograph was taken pre-food coma.
post-food coma.
although my cousin's trip was short, we did manage to make a couple fo tourist stops, including woburn abbey (click on the highlighted link for more information)which featured this 'chinese dairy'.
woburn abbey also features an antique center that sam was keen on checking out.
another english tradition and requisite activity for visitors is tea service. the scenic rushton hall is favourite.
sam took pity on our barren backyard and planted a bed of flowers as well as two berry bushes including this raspberry bush.
for sam's last night in england i made dinner for us, as well as my mum-in-law and her cousin who was visiting from ireland, ann. it was a great night with great company.
sam made a delicious walnut torte for us to enjoy. and for an added flourish he decorated it with edible flowers that he planted in out garden!
sam's parting words are memorialized on our chalkboard wall - i haven't had the heart to erase them yet!
